The Local Morris Scene
The Connecticut River Valley and surrounding region is blessed, if that's the right word, with a variety of Morris teams. Here's a list of the ones I can remember. If you know of anyone I've missed, please let me know. There's lots more teams to the east of us and a few farther north in Vermont but we don't see them very often. Check out Rich Holme's page for much more detail.
- Wake Robin Morris - a women's side who dance mostly Fieldtown. They are based in Amherst and practice on Wednesday nights at the Bangs Community Center. Some Juggler men are rather closely entwined with these women.
- Hartsbrook Garland - a women's garland team we frequently hang out with.
- Marlboro Morris Men - The Massachusetts incarnation as opposed to the Marlboro Classics who are still based in Vermont.
- Marlboro Morris and Sword - based around Marlboro College, a very fine women's Cotswold team who join with the Marlboro Men to host the Marlboro Ale. Contact information forthcoming.
- That Long Tall Sword - Mumming and longsword and the Abbott's Bromley Horn Dance.
- Borderlines - mixed group who do border mostly from Red Stags style of dancing. No web page that I know of. Contact them through Jonathan or Wilma Lawrence (413) 634-2298.
- Berkshire Morris Men - out in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. They throw great parties. Contact: Graham Deane
- Wild Rose Garland - No longer with us. To some extent, they've been replaced by Jug End Mountain Morris (aka The Flying Buttresses).
- Millers River Men - sadly not currently dancing but there's always hope of a revival.
- Guiding Star Clog Morris - the only Northwest style Morris in the western part of the state.
- Jack in the Green - They're only a little ways off in southern New Hampshire but we don't get to dance with them as often as we'd like. Green Ale and Spam was lots of fun last year.
- Harrisville Women - They're in southern New Hampshire, too, but at least we see them when they come down to visit the Hartsbrook crowd every year. Ditto Green Ale and Spam comment.
- Putney Morris Men - in southern Vermont. We tour the McNeill's Brewery with them at least once a year. Email contact is Stu Strothman.
- Pokingbrook - a little farther afield in the Albany, New York area. We don't see them often but enjoy their company when we do.
